Bioculture for Sewage Treatment Plant

In this example, a logistics company in the Raigad District of Maharashtra had recently commissioned their aerobic sewage treatment plant. However, the treated water was failing to meet the regulatory requirements. The organization had tried commissioning the plant initially with cow dung and later with effluent from a neighbouring ETP. There was no success. The organization had attributed the failure to the plant's design rather than to the quality of bacteria used for sewage treatment.

The logistics company had reached out to a consultant for redesigning the plant and was considering capacity expansion. The organization was planning to increase the retention time, and boost the DO levels with additional pumps and diffusers. The goal was to ultimately improve degradation efficiencies. The consultant however suggested the organization to first try our specialized biocultures for sewage treatment before committing to any additional capital investments. Based on the consultant's recommendation the organization tried our Evobac - STP bioculture for aerobic sewage treatment.

Within seven days of dosing the bacterial culture, the plant started performing far above the expectations of the organization. The quality of the treated water was far better than merely meeting the regulatory norms. By using specialised bacteria for sewage treatment the consultant saved the organization from expenses in equipment and precious real estate. He further helped the organization in setting up a system for recycling the treated water. The treated water was now being passed through sand and charcoal filters. The clean water was stored in an overhead tank on the building's terrace from where it was used for various non-potable applications.

Bacteria are at the heart of any biological sewage treatment process. The selection of bacteria can make or break that process. Bacteria are also the cheapest and the easiest component of the wastewater system that can be replaced and tested before committing to permanent infrastructural modifications.
